Connections to Resources

We know that the tough economic environment has caused financial hardship for many people. Depending on your situation, KCP&L can connect you to company or community programs that may be able to help you pay your bills or provide you with other types of assistance.

  • United Way 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember phone number that connects people with available community resources, including agencies that provide utility assistance. This free service is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Simply dial 2-1-1.
  • The Kansas Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) — LIEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year benefit. Call 1-800-432-0043 or visit www.srskansas.org.
  • The Missouri Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) — LIHEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay their energy bills during the winter months. For more information or an application, please call United Way at 2-1-1 to locate your local office or visit www.dss.mo.gov.
  • Cold Weather Program — Our Cold Weather Program is designed to help customers with delinquent accounts avoid loss of service or have service restored during the winter months.
  • Adjustable Due Date — This program helps customers relying on Social Security or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to schedule payment due dates to better correspond with the receipt of benefits.
  • KCP&L Medical Customer Program — If a member of your household depends on electrically operated life-support equipment, contact us for a “Medical Customer” application form.
  • Special Friend Registration — Customers 60 or older who are disabled or expect to be away for long periods may give us the name of a relative, friend or agency to contact if their payments become overdue.
  • KCP&L Energy Gift Program — Our Energy Gift program lets individuals give the gift of energy to family or friends. Anyone can place an Energy Gift on a KCP&L customer’s account.
  • KCP&L Dollar Aide — Dollar-Aide has helped thousands of families pay their heating, cooling and water bills during financially pressing times. The program is funded by customer donations, which we match with a 50-cent energy credit.
  • KCP&L Economic Relief Pilot Program (ERPP) — Approved applicants will receive up to a $50 monthly credit on their electric bill for 12 months. At the end of the 12-month period, they can reapply for up to three years.
