What's the Rate Increase For & When Will It Go into Effect?

In June 2010, KCP&L filed a rate increase request with the Missouri Public Service Commission to increase base rates in our Missouri service areas. The filing follows the December 2009 request filed with the Kansas Corporation Commission to increase base rates in our Kansas service area. These rate increases are the final ones associated with our Comprehensive Energy Plan (CEP). The CEP, through significant investments in renewable energy, new generation, environmental controls, infrastructure upgrades and energy efficiency programs, will ensure clean, affordable, reliable energy for Kansas and Missouri.

The largest component of the Missouri and Kansas requests is for the construction of Iatan 2, a new 850-megawatt coal-fired generation unit that is expected to come online in late 2010.

This rate request will pay for new, cleaner and more efficient coal-fired generation as well as system reliability improvements, all of which are part of the Comprehensive Energy Plan.

A timeline the Missouri rate case is expected approximately one month from the date of filing.
