Posted June 4th, 2010 at 4:05 pm

Kansas City Power & Light Company and KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations (formerly Aquila), subsidiaries of Great Plains Energy Incorporated (NYSE: GXP), today filed rate increase requests with the Missouri Public Service Commission (MPSC) to increase base rates for electric service in its three Missouri service areas. The requests, which are subject to regulatory approval, would take effect in May 2011. If approved, a typical Missouri residential customer’s rates would increase by an average of 14% or less than $15.00 per month.

KCP&L files rate increase request with Kansas Corporation Commission

Earlier today, KCP&L filed a rate increase request with the Kansas Corporation Commission to increase base rates in our Kansas service area. The total amount of the rate increase request is $55.2 million. If approved, this would raise the typical residential customer’s monthly base bill by 11.5% or approximately $11.08 each month. Pending regulatory approval, we expect these rates to take effect for Kansas customers in October 2010.

We will be posting regular updates on this page about the rate case process in both Kansas and Missouri. Check back to learn the latest news.
